We were never entirely happy with the original cover art for Astronomicon: Icarus. A few asteroids drifting before a nice starfield fitted the story but lacked impact. It certainly was not going to inspire readers to buy the book.
Now we are pleased to announce that, for the first time ever, we’ve bought in some external artwork and I believe you will agree that the results are excellent. Now Icarus will be adorned with our most eye-catching cover yet. It shows two space-suited asteroid miners in a dangerous situation drifting away from the asteroid they are mining.
Our first publication of 2013 is another science fiction novel from author Paul Vincent. This is his fourth novel to appear on the Shake-the-Tree label, and a fifth will be following very soon. The Astronomicon series keeps getting better and Icarus is another strong addition to the set.
Icarus is a fascinating example of classic science fiction. Three space craft; a mysterious top secret prototype vessel, a state-of-the-art military ship and a civilian deep space mining vessel, all meet up in the Trojan cluster, with potentially deadly results. Fans of thrillers and science fiction alike should love this one.
I hate to have to announce this, but Shake-the-Tree will not be accepting new submissions for the first half of 2013. We need chance to work through everything we have received so far and there simply are not enough hours in the day for us to cope with anymore right now. Sorry to disappoint any prospective authors, but I expect us to reopen for submissions later in the year. Thank you for your patience.
This year is going to be an interesting one for new releases. We are putting out two new books (both in the popular Astronomicon series) within the next few weeks and then there will be a long gap in our release schedule lasting until the autumn when we expect several more releases. From the point of view of our growing following of readers, this will mean a relatively quiet summer, but our new releases in the second half of the year should be well worth the wait.
Our aim is to expand our business and develop a much stronger marketing presence during this year, allowing us to take on more new authors during the second half of 2013. This in turn will allow us to increase our output of new titles and provide a more comprehensive promotion and support system for all our authors. For the next few years, we expect the e-book world to be a very exciting place to be, with lots of new potential and possibilities that we are only just beginning to enjoy.
